Body Confidence Progress Report 2015

Posted on Mar 26, 2015

The Government Equalities Office has released its Body Confidence Progress Report, which looks at the issues of low body image, its very harmful impacts and the work carried out between 2013-2015 by the government and others to combat it.

Body image is an issue of enormous public concern, especially to parents and young people.

Eighty-seven per cent of young women feel they are judged more for their appearance than their ability, whilst 1 in 5 won’t go to parties or social events due to low body confidence. Poor body image contributes to poor mental and physical health, low aspirations and a range of risky behaviours.

The government has been taking steps to tackle these issues, alongside retailers, advertisers, the sports industry, the media, young people’s organisations and body confidence organisations. To find out more watch the video above, and read the report here.
