UK Plus Size Fashion Week has teamed up with the Be Real Campaign to promote healthy body image with a special event that will see celebrities, influencers and plus size models strut the runway on 5 May in London.
The event will bring together brands, organisations, influencers, celebrities and the general public to launch the UK Plus Size Fashion Week’s #beproudbeyou campaign and raise funds to support the Be Real Campaign’s ongoing work to change perceptions around beauty ideals and create a body confident nation where health is put above appearance.
The evening will include a charity fashion show, a panel discussing the big questions and challenges surrounding body confidence in a plus size world, a body confidence booth, a charity auction and more.
Liam Preston, Head of the Be Real Campaign, said:
“Although we’re now seeing greater diversity in fashion and advertising, a thin body type is still hailed as the ‘ideal’ fuelling body image anxiety, especially among young people.
“The fashion and advertising industry overwhelmingly influences how we see ourselves and they have a responsibility to promote healthy body image and reflect the true diversity of the population.
“It’s positive to see more and more brands diversify their size range and to have an evening specifically dedicated to showcase the latest trends for plus size fashion is a great celebration of the average woman’s body, showing us that we don’t need to have the ‘ideal’ body to enjoy fashion and look or feel great.”
The fashion show will showcase a number of plus size high street brands to emerging designers in a show walked by models of all sizes, influencers, and celebrities including Rachel Peru, Tai (The Voice) and many more.
The panel discussion will comprise a cross-section of experts, industry leaders and influencers including actress Jess Ellis from Hollyoaks, Stylist Fashion Writer Billie Bhatia, Plus Size Model Diana Sirokai, and Head of the Be Real Campaign Liam Preston.
Alongside the confidence booth where people can share their feelings about what or who makes them feel confident, will be a proud gallery including portraits, quotes and more to help spread body positivity. The evening will conclude with the charity auction which will include clothing, wellbeing products, packages, celebrity donations and designer one-offs.
