As Love Island hits screens across Britain this evening, the Be Real Campaign responds to the controversial line-up.
Liam Preston, Head of YMCA’s Be Real Campaign, said:
“In the run-up to this year’s Love Island, we genuinely thought that the producers might have heeded the outcry from last series’ ‘perfect’ line-up. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case. If the promotional material is anything to go by, having the perfect body and incredible looks still seem to be the only desirable qualities one would need to find love.
“While the inclusion of one contestant who ‘could’ be considered plus-sized is better than in previous years, it is nowhere near close to being good enough. From what we can see thus far, Love Island has tried to tickbox its way through showcasing different body sizes but has once again fallen short of the standards the public deserve.”
